I am however ready to begin my summer show season. Living out of a horse trailer and toting everything in my legendary buckets. So for now Im going to bed. 2 finals tomorrow then Im gonna hit the road. 3.5 hours later Ill be home. I hope you all have an amazing school year next year. Think of me working my butt of at Slippery Rock. I will miss you all! Have an awesome SUMMER!!!

Final

So I know we don't have to blog anymore but I wanted to do a possible final one. I have been going through my scene and trying to get the paper done, but it is hard to make up a 2page Bio on someone you make up. It is only hard because I feel that each detail should some how pertain to the ultimate goal of the scene. I just don't know how to most effectively pull it all together... Anyways, it was amazing to expirence this class with all of you and best of luck on finals!

Almost forgot to blog before class here. Last class I am pretty sure that we got a lot done with our scene even though it has been changed a lot than what it originally was. I understand why we had to change it though; it's not like we made a lot of changes that did not make sense. Talking about the One Acts was ok.

The End

I can't believe that this is our last actual class before our final. This semester has gone by so fast and it is hard to believe. I had a lot of fun in our class and I really did learn a lot about acting and that it is not as easy as I thought it was. It takes a lot of practice and concentration. Today I think that it is mine and Katie's turn to practice our final scene so we will see how it goes. I will miss everyone! Good luck on your finals!!
Last class and last post. Its finally the end of the year and I as many of you don't want some classes like this one to end. This class has been allot of fun and ill miss being in it. I think we all did an excellent job and have really grown as actors and actresses. Good luck on your finials everyone. And for the last time I bid you all farewell and may you all live a happy and prosperous life.

Last Day b4 the actual last day(finals ugh) =P

not gonna Tues class was boring and i wasnt too interested in talking about the One Acts bc they werent too great themselves. But tomorrow bn our last class im curious to see wat we'll b doing, hopefully somethin really fun!!! n i agree wit everything Clint said on his blog, i'll miss the fun times we've had this semester and hope to have more classes with u guys sometime down the line so we can talk about our crazy fun we had haha!!

Class

So this finally just hit me that tomorrow is our last class. I don't know why I didn't realize that earlier but now that I think about it I'm kind of sad. I've really enjoyed this class and have learned a lot. I wisht that there was a second part to this class that we could take as non-majors.

Its not goodbye, its just see you later :(

It is crazzzy that tomorrow is out LAST CLASS! I cant believe the time has finally come. I was thinking about taking the class again, bc of how much fun i had it in. You are all amazing people and im so happy to have met you. I think we should leave the blog open, and continue blogging over the summer to catch up with everyone. What do you guys think? Somethin to do every now and then :)

It was kool to talk about the one-acts to hear everyones opinioins. Everyone is doin great wit their scenes and i cant wait to see then all on tuesday. Good luck with all your finals, and dont get too stressed out about everything. Only one more week here at AU... enjoy it!

TWISTER SOUNDS GREAT! We should talk about it in class tomorrow, and decide a day/time.
See all your beautiful faces tomorrow in class :)

Exit, stage left

I must say that I've really enjoyed this class. I've has so may 'traditional' classes these last couple of years that it was really nice to breakup the monotony. Everyone 's been really supportive throughout the semester and I'm going to miss you all. See yall tomorrow.
It is hard to believe that we only have one class left. This semester has gone so fast! I'm glad we talked about the one-acts on Tuesday. It was interesting to hear a little bit about the plays that were shown on the other nights. I was also impressed with myself for knowing who Bertolt Brecht was when Fabio brought him up in class. I'm interested to see what we do for our last class...personally I would enjoy a nice game of whiz-bang.

TWISTER!

Ok so here is what I think regarding the twister... Perhaps we should all take a break from studying on Monday night and meet in the Myers Hall lounge and play some Twister and eat some pizza! Thats just what I think. Let me know what ya'll think!

As far as class, Im glad we talked about the One Acts because I wasnt sure if others were confused by some of them as I was. It made me feel much better to know that others had issues with some of the acts. I overall enjoyed them but some aspects of certain acts could have been different to make them better!

Tomorrow is our last class... :(

See ya'll in class tomorrow!

:(

I can't believe that tomorrow is our last class!! This semester went by soooo fast. I have had a lot of fun with everyone in class and I will definitely miss it! Everyone is doing a great job with their scenes so far and i'm sure they will be incredible on Tuesday for the final. I think that we all have learned A LOT about acting and how we act in life in general from this class that we can carry with us. Good Luck to everyone on the final and all other finals!

Some say goodbye- i say the end

All i have to say is Thursday better equal twister! Or i waill be very disappointed!! But congrats guys!! We made it to the end!!! All we have to do now is our last day of class- sad and then or scenes! It was a great year and i will miss you all! Except for some- just joshing- i will miss you all! Im trying to have whiz band catch on with people but so far it isnt working out- we might have to have some whiz bang get togethers just so i can stay sane!! Well good luck ya'll with finals! Dont stress out to much- and if you do then do that weird relaxation thing and youll be back on track.

Disappointment

So today I was sitting in class thinking. I thought about how much I missed Whiz Bang, random acting exercises, and fun yet educational material involving the teamwork of the entire class. I know that we are growing as actors and that the classes are geared towards preparing for the final, but I want the old days back...

One Acts

So I missed class on Thursday but I made it to the one acts on Tuesday. They were great. I wish that I would've been able to go and see the shows on wednesday or friday but that will have to wait until next year. I think that they actors did a great job of using the space that they had and they also did a great job working in such a small place. I would reccomend that everyone go and see this the next time that they are put on.

......

ok well im just going to throw it out there.. im going to miss the buckets lol...but as for the end of the school year being here .. its about freakin time!!! even though i have two meets this weekend and two of my hardest exams on the same day back to back lol.. and im not goin to be here on thursday because of a meet that i have to leave early for so my days are even shorter.. well i hope you guys have a good weekend and ill see you all on tuesday
oh man, second to last class b4 finals!! now that i think about it, its kinda sad that this year is coming to an end, its going by sooo fast and i know sometime w/in the first month of summer i'm prob gonna be wishing i'd be back here =( ..... but the final scenes are coming along nicely, and im starting to feel a lot more confident about ours too. the walking to or from a room exercise was very interesting and since i havent went yet, from what i saw it looks a lil difficult, but we'll see how i do in this next class!

too late

well its 3:04 and i have class at 8. gotta love the last week of class, and stayin up all nite doing papers, i just finished one and cant stay awake any longer to even start the other one. i will see u all in class tomorrow, more then likely looking a lookin sleepy im sure. hopfeully Fabio will talk to my partner and I about our skit since in the 2nd to last class we have before FINALS.. that is crazzzy. This semeseter went by so fast, but im tired as hell, and am NOT going to wake up tomorrow morning. So if anyone sees this an dim not in class CALL ME.. lol.. gnite everyone, see in a few hours :)

p.s. WERE GNA PLAY TWISTER BEFORE SCHOOLS OUT!

RIP Buckets

So as the end of the semester draws near I have finally realized that I am going to lose my buckets! They are pretty much my signature for the class and I am so sad to see them go. Once I go home the fake buckets turn into real buckets...buckets full of water and oats. Then those buckets turn into big tubs...full of sawdust and stall bedding. I realize I am kind of babbling but the fake buckets turning into real buckets kind of symbolizes the end of a loufing year of college and into the hardcore horse work of summer! Wow. That was a lot of rambling and I am very sorry. Sometimes I get going with my horse "stuff" and can't stop! See ya'll in class.

The one act scenes overall were decent. I thought the first act with the king had its moments but overall came off a little too cheesy. The second act had a good storyline but the acting in it could have been a little better. The third act was awesome. The dialog and plot of the act made it very humorous and intelligent.

One Act

I was pleasantly surprised in how much I enjoyed the One Act plays. Though I must say the first one was a little too weird for me to follow, the following plays made up for it. I guess its really interesting to note that these plays were far more light hearted and seemed to not only be more fun for the audience, but for the actors as well. It was nice to sit down at a play and not be coaxed into a drama that required a lot of concentration. Maybe, its just me, but I thought it was a fantastic change of pace.
As you are all probably aware, I was not in class on Thursday. It's really not like me to miss class like that. In fact, I have not really been myself lately. I think the stress and lack of sleep are starting to take their toll. Anyways, it sounds like you all did an interesting exercise with entrances/exits. I'm kinda sad I missed it. I'm sorry i was unable to see the scenes as well. I always feel like I learn alot not only when we perform our scene but when watching everyone else. I like how we are all able to learn from each other. I will definitely be seeing you all tomorrow morning!! :-)

i can never think of titles...

So everytime Branden and I do our scene in class it changes. I think now we have come up with the most stalkerish scene haha. I think it will be fun to do though once we get all the stuff together. As for the door exercise, I never really realized how much an entrance or exit can set a scene. It's hard to make what you see in your imagination come alive on the stage, but i think that if you make your entrance/exit believable then it will be a little easier because everyone knows where you are.

See you all tomorrow!

packing up!

Hey so when i did the door scene i was thinking about all i had to do in the next two weeks. I have to pack. thats my number one. I have too much stuff and not enough space in my car. Oh no!!!!!!! Anyway i thought that i should practice before i actually pack. I think my closet is magical because i keep taking stuff out of it but more clothes just keep coming and coming. its like never ending! I dont know what to do because it never ENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

this has nothing to do with acting. sorry

Door.

So at the end of class with the door exercise I did, as you all know, the meat locker. While I was sitting there thinking about what I wanted to do I recalled Rocky and when he used the meat as punching bags. This inspired me on my quest for the perfect entrance/exit haha Life lesson is that inspiration comes from everything.

Friday, April 25, 2008

I chose the bathroom for the door exercise partly because I had already had an experience with escaping a port-a-pottie earlier in the semester, so I figured why not. The scenes are continually improving and I am excited to see how all of them turn out and what is being held back from just practicing. As the school year is ending and people need to take classes for next semester I am always recommending this class, not just because it is fun, but because it gives you the chance to step out of your comfort zone by doing things you normally wouldn't do in front of classmates.

Thursday, April 24, 2008

Doing my scene a second time really helped to flesh out the character. He used to be a little too one dimensional now I think with the tweaks I added in he ought to be a better responsive character to what's going on. I'm still kinda excited for summer even though it means we'll not have the crazy class together.
I was not in class last time, but the time before that, Katie and I got to give our final scene. I was happy with the way it went and we now have a better understanding of what we need to do. Everyone's final secnes are coming along good and it is exciting to see how everyone's changes over time. The play I went to see last night was good I liked all of the acts and they were really funny.
Well i dont really have too much to say since i was just in the audience last class, but i did enjoy everyones finals and how they were coming along and then the floor plan activity skits. Everyone seems to be comin along great and i can def tell theres been some improvement in everyone so far.

Only couple more weeks left!!!

Randomness

First off, I went last night to see the one acts and they were hysterical. I really liked "The Gate" and the one with the weird girl, I just dont remember the name! As far as our finals, I really think that they are coming along quite nicely. I really like Aaron & Clint's. Also Michelle & Kevin's was really good. Im glad that I am done with the exercise in which we had to touch everything because I was kind of worried about it but it turned out ok I guess. See ya'll in class!

ps: class twister SOON!!!

Final

After doing our scene for the second time I feel like we have plenty to work with. The only part that I am worried about is coming up the right actions for each line. I'm afraid that I will use the same action twice only it will have a different name or that I will use an action that's not strong enough. Luckily me and my partner still have time to figure all of that out.

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

The final scenes on tuesday were looking pretty good. Hopefully Fabio can give me and joe some helpful pointers tomorrow since we'll prolly have to go. I'm goin to the one act show thing tomorrow night so that should be pretty cool based on some of your previous experiences.

finals week

It is crazy to me to see how far we have all come this semester. I agree with Gywn i cant wait to see everyones skit, they are all going to be so good, when we finalyl ready to show them off! Im excited to see more people go tomorrow, but hope that we can figure out what to change with ours so it is good. The one acts... SPEECHLESS :)

I have class after our class.. but we WILL play Twister i Promisse !!

one Act plays!! lol

i just want to say that the one act plays were pretty good. the last one called "the gate" was prolly my fav just because of all the funny lines and who good the actors played their charcaters. and some of them were ok i just like humor so the funnier the better lol... and that was the only one that i had no idea how it was going to end .. and that just happened to be the last one so its pretty much the only one i remember .. see you in class tomorrow =)
I wasn't really ready for Fabio to pick my group to do our second try at our final performance. Even though we weren't ready I think we did really good. I also think that we all are getting progressively better. Well that's all from me tonight. Goodnight.
hey guys!

so i think that i super excited for finials week. i cant wait to see everyones scenes. I think we have all grown so much this semester. Who would have thought that we could reach this level? not me. Im shocked and proud that everyone could give themselves so fully to the class. I just wish i could take it again and again cause i have so much fun.

The twister was awesome. I want to play after class! Dont forget!!! :P

spies who own an icecream shop?

I never really thought I would act as a spy who owned an icecream shop/ was using it as a place to spy. It was fun being able to go with whatever was thrown at you though because I have realized that it is harder to have lines since you have to make sure you get them right and add emotions to them. I think having to touch everything in a scene also helps to develop the conversation and what not. On a side note I am going to the play tonight and I'm interested to see how it will be! See you all tomorrow :)

Twister!!

I was glad that Katie and I were able to finally perform our floor plan scene today. We had drawn it several times before, but we always seemed to run out of time before we could perform. I had alot of fun with it. Sometimes its fun to play the serious (and slightly mean) character. Plus, twister was pretty amazing! (sorry to let all the blood rush to your head katie!)

Also, good job to everyone who performed their final scenes today!

See You All on Thursday!

scene

So how much did everyone else's scene change from the first time they went because Kevin and Michelle's changed a lot. I kinda think that's good though, I know my and Aimee's scene changed a lot from what we initially thought of. I dunno see everybody in class then.

Scenes

It was interesting to watch how much Kevin and Michelle's scene had changed from the last time that we saw them in class. It's cool that they were able to come up with something completely different from what they had before. I can't wait to see who else has changed their scene and to see what they came up with.
My partner and I did some work on our skit, mostly planning and reviewing some of the pointers Fabio gave us. I'm feeling good about it, but I'm sure we'll need more work.
Last class our final scene didnt go very well, we didnt have much work done to it and kept getting the lines mixed up.. ugh.. but other than that i can deff see great progress in other groups scenes, and i enjoy it when Fabio tweeks them b/c it jus makes it so much more dramatic and interesting. Since Gwyn n i went last week im not so sure u guys will get to see us tomorrow but i am excited to see what the other groups that havent gone in a while have to offer, esp. Max's, he told me it was comin along pretty well! good luck!

Final Scenes

So me and Ron worked on our final scene alot tonite and it got CRAZY!
Since we have watched everyone else go ,and got to listen to Fabio critique everyone, it helped to hear what he had to say so we were able to fix those things. Everyone elses skit was full of drama and he said the bigger the realtionship the better, so our thing is nuts. Just wait until you all see it tomorrow. Im really gna try not to laugh, but i think when im in the moment ill be fine. I really cant beleive we only have 9 days of REAL classes left! That is soooo weird to me.

When is everyone goin to the one acts this week? I still have to buy tickets for it. I want to go on Friday tho... so i hope they still have tickets for fridays Show :)

See you all in class tomorrow and I cant wait to see everyones scences and how much they have improved. Im gonna be tired tomorrow, so if I'm a lil hyper then u know why :)
Yeah I'm very disappointed in myself. I slept through another class. It makes me mad when i wake up at like 12:00 just to realize i missed acting. I guess there is nothing i can do but pray I actually wake up tomorrow. From reading the previous posts it seems as though everyone is doing a good job with their scenes. Good Job and keep it up, the end of the year is fast approaching. Well I'm off to bed. Hopefully I see you all tomorrow.

Monday, April 21, 2008

The final scenes seem to be coming together well. We still have another 2 weeks or so to work on them so it shouldn't be too hard to come up with something decent. It helps hearing Fabio critique the other groups which allows us to know what he expects and to adjust our scenes to his specifications.

Its almost over...

So I have been preparing all my documents to transfer schools at the end of this semester and in doing that I have come to realize how close the end of the semester AND our final scenes are. I am really excited about the final scenes and can't wait to see the work people have put into them. See ya'll in class tomorrow!
I am beginning to feel really good about our final scene. After going through it in class again and getting some input, I feel like it is moving in a really good direction. It was also nice to get some help with the actions for the lines because I seem to be having some difficulty figuring out what to do with those. I can't wait to see more scenes and to see how people have improved!! See you all in class!!

P.S. I'm glad to see that you are practicing your lines Kevin!! (oh and everyone already thinks you're strange! :-) ......jk!)
I think everyone is doing a really good job with their scenes! I think it will be really interesting to see how they all turn out in the end when we have to perform them for our final. Hope everyone has a good day and see you all tomorrow :)

Sunday, April 20, 2008

I don't really remember if I blogged for last thursday or not but if I did here is another. The groups are all still doing good jobs with acting out their scenes and taking the advice that is given to them and applying it. I still have not done the exercise where you set up the location, but I am pretty sure that will be for me to do Tuesday.

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Practice

So I was thinking over my lines the other day, and I didn't realize that I was actually saying them out loud... Lets just say that there are a few more people around AU that think I am strange!
The exercise where you have to touch everything is going to be somewhat difficult but the other groups are doing a nice job so far. It is kinda funny to see how different of an approach another group with the same lines we have is taking.

final scene

Well last class was the first time that Katie and I did our scene and I think it went pretty well. I am excited to see how it will work and change over the next couple of weeks. I just hope that I do not laugh in it because Katie acts so crazy! We will just have to keep practicing over and over untill we feel comfortable with eachother.

Dialogue Practice

My first time doing my dialogue was a little nerve racking, but I think I learned a lot from the experience.  Fabio was very helpful and gave a lot of advice to us.  I think I just need more practice and then I might be as good as the others.
Doing the floor plan was allot of fun and i really thought that we did a good job at it as well. I m interested to see what Fabio has up his sleeve for the next few classes and I hope that whatever the activity that it is as enjoyable as this one. Well its late and I need sleep see you all tomorrow.

Floor Plan Scene

at first i was a little skeptic about how our choice of a floor plan would work out but when Fabio assigned us personalities, it made the scene easier for us to develop a way to touch all the objects. i found our scene pretty funny and think everyon else did too. haha

Scenes

It's nice to watch other people do there finals scene in class. While it helps them work some things out, it also helps me to evaluate my own scene in my head and think about things that i could do differently or ways to make the scene better. It was also nice seeing the floor plan excercise instead of being the one doing it. I enjoyed seeing how other people would use everything in their space. I can't wait to see more of them.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

So as you all could tell in class i am pretty used to being accused of cheating so i'm pretty good at finnagleing??? if that is even a word, my way out of situations. But it was crazy afterwards how Fabio said that our sketch took forever, because it felt like it was short to me. I'm just telling you all this to prove that it's an easy exercise if you just wing it.
I love that the scenes in class keep getting more and more interesting. Watching other people perform their scenes the past few classes has helped me to understand what we need to do to make our scene better. I'm hoping when we perform tomorrow it goes much better than our first go at it. The floor plan scenes also keep getting more interesting (aliens anyone??). It is interesting to see what ways people come up with to touch the various objects in their space.

Hmmm...what to write?

First off I wanted to say that Amy and Max...your skit was uber funny, especially throwing the "couch cushions" As far as the rest of the class, I bet everybody will now make alterations to our skits now that we know what the task is. I know that Michelle and I are putting the bare minimums in ours! I am kind of sad that this semester is almost over because I love this class and all of the people in it are great. So this blog has been kind of random but Im in a very random mood today! So enough for now. See ya'll in class tomorrow!

idk

ok for the people who have not gone yet for the scene its easier to not have alot of things in your room and it is really hard not try to find differnt ways to touch everything.. and im still nervous about the final projects but i think it will be ok ... and the skit that max and Ami did freakin hilarious lol.. see you guys tomorrow

Max is a CHEATER!

So we had no idea what were goin to do for our floor plan on Tuesday. We just knew that we were boyfriend and girlfriend and that we had to touch everything. I just said that I coulda found out he was cheatin, and we went with it. Once we got into , it was really quite fun. Gettin into arguments seems to be a good way to act out those types of things, bc you dont really have to THINK about actin, you just react. Which is what Fabio has been tellin us we need to learn how to do. When your in an argument, you just fight, you dont think about it.
I cant wait to see how differntly people have changed their scenes since last time. It should be interesting. And yes it is crazy to see that class and school in general is almost over. ITs been a great semester with you all , and i hope i take other classes with all you again sometime :)

scenes

It was really helpful to work on our scene in class. We came up with a lot of ideas that I hadn't thought about before that would really make the situation interesting. It will be interesting to see what everyone has for their scenes the second time around that we do them in class. On a side note I can't believe this class is almost over... it has been a lot of fun! See you all tomorrow :)

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

water fights and grocery stores

I was hoping that my group would have an activity to do.. i know that the whole black jack deal thing was happening but it would have been fun to have a water fight or run with the bulls or something! I dont know a thing about black jack. i mean i can play but i dont know how the whole money thing works. Oh well... i guess i just wasnt all there today. I hope we get to see more fun stuff next week. Maybe our scenes will be better the second time around.

Yar

It was interesting to see what we have to do with our floor plans. Having to touch everything in them makes me kinda happy mine was small. I don't think I could remember everything if it was much bigger than it is. Let's hope we have a good class.

Floor Plan

So it was really interesting to set up our floor plan and then have to touch everything in it. It was a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. Not only did we have to touch each table, but also each chair and every other little object that we had in there. As far as our water balloon fight goes, it's a lot harder to have a water balloon fight without water balloons. I can't wait to see everyone else's floor plans.
It will be interesting to do the floor plan activity and touch everything in the room! I think it will take a lot of concentration! I think that it is mine and Katie's turn to practice the final in class today, so we will see how that goes! We have practiced it a few times so I think we at least have something put together.

Rough Weekend new Week

Feeling a bit under the weather, but I think some well needed rest over the weekend has me energized for the coming week. I'm looking forward to seeing what the class has to offer us next. We have a really great class, and sometimes thats 'the best part of waking up'; that and a big cup of coffee.

Weekend and Class

So I don't remember if I had to post this weekend, Im thinking I didn't but I want to be safe anyways. I just returned from Denver this morning, got back to AU at 5:15am, and then promptly got to work from 5:50-8! Boy was I excited. I hope I am awake enough to be able to devote myself to the acting today. I hope everyone's weekend went well!

floor plan

if we have to touch everything in our florr plan it wil be very difficult. i am wondering what we are goin to have to do while tryin to touch it. balloon fight was interesting. i guess well just see how it goes today in class. see you all there.

p.s. i hope i can talk :(

Ready to Go!

I have a bad feeling about these next couple of weeks. I have a feeling that they are going to DRAG by. I am so ready for summer yet I dont know if I am ready to leave all my Ashland cronies...hmmmm. I understand that is very random but just something to ponder! See ya'll in class!

Floor Scene

yeah, ima have to agree wit max on this one... the floor plan we drew up, we really weren't thinking we were gonna have to touch everything lol.. the scene we decided to do is gonna make this very tough.. but who knows, anything can happen so i a little eager to see how its gonna turn out

Floor Plan

Im a bit worried about the floor plan assignment. my group has a few things that are connected to the ceiling.... hows that going to work. o well i guess ill find out when we have to do it. so did everyone enjoy clint's and my production? let us know what you think... but we dont need any students directing... and Fabio wont like that either. Well see you all in class bright and early. bye

The floor plan exercise is going to be pretty challenging. I know my scene has a ton of things in it so it will be difficult to touch all of them in the flow of the scene.
So the floor plan exercise turned out different than I thought it would. The group that went did a good job. I'm a little nervous about it. I'm not so fantastic at improv sometimes, so we'll just have to see how it goes. People's scenes keep looking better and better (as they should since they have had a chance to watch and learn from others!). I'm hoping ours goes much better the second time around!! See you all in class tomorrow!!

more floor plans

So it has been awhile since we had class last, but I think we were working on the floor plans we made. Now that we know in our floor plans we have to do some activity that really has no relation and while we are doing it we have to touch everything, makes this all seem pretty hard. We have to remember all the details of our plans even if there is not a prop to represent it on stage. The group that went did a good job though! It will be intertesting to see what the rest of the groups are going to do.

Talking

I never really noticed how complex talking can be. There are so many different ways to say the same things and everyone has their own style. Just taking a moment and listening to how people talk back and forth really emphasizes that.
Doing the scene in front of everyone wasn't so bad at all. I think the more we work on ours the better we will be able to act everything out in a more appropriate manner. The exercise where you have to touch every item in the place you made looks okay too, but I only say that because I haven't actually done it yet..

The honest Truth

Okay, I dont want to be rude but i am going to write down my honest thoughts... not filtered. Whether this is a good thing or not im not sure but here we go.

I thought today was extremely frustrating. Everyone's spark seems to be gone! We need to be excited about this! We have the opportunity to put on a scen in front of each other! Its so much fun! But no one seems excited! Im not saying that they havent been good cause they have... but we all need to get into acting class shape! I co run the youth and literacy team here at Ashland, and we put on these stroytimes where we read to kids and eat food and have fun.. well sometimes the kids get tired of the one activity so we have to stand up and shake out all of our squirminess! Thats what we have to do in class! Stop being squirmy and actually do the scene, do it well, and, as Fabio said today, commit to it!

If this sounds like a lecture then im sorry cause i hate nothing more in the world than i hate a lecture, thats a lie, i hate lots of little trivial things more... like the improper use of the english language for one instance, or those stupid shirts guys wear that have the arm holes down to their waist, so its not actually a shirt its a piece of fabric hung round their neck.. i hate that. ANYWAY, i think its something we all need to check ourselves on
People talk in absurdly different ways. Some people are quiet almost all the time and never raise their voices, others are consistently loud, some have absolutely no volume control and it fluctuates wildly as they go. Then you have the people who have some control over their volume and use their voice correctly. It just seems odd that we can do all of that.

eek!!

ok so im starting to get a lil nervous about the final projects that we have.. and i thought we would be getting more time in class to work on them. eeek!.. anyways i wonder what we are going to use the floor plans for that we made in class on thursday. well see you guys in class,....

Voices

Volume was also played a big part for me while listening to people talk. Like when something was funny or very interesting the person would tend to speak up more and kinda stert laughing b4 they were done with their sentence, and when they found themselves talking about someone certain the volume would go down.

talk the talk

So all this weekend i was in the hospital visiting my mom. So i decided to watch people there. It was weird. People would be laughing outside and talking loudly and just being themselves but as soon as they stepped foot into the hospital the voices went down, the smiles were removed, and the conversations stopped or were changed to something less material. Then when doctors or nurses were laughing or talking loudly the visitors would glare and whisper... like its not allowed to have fun! I understand, i mean i would be upset too f the doctors were haing a grand old time and no one was helping my mom but just the amount of people who had this reaction was kinda surprising. Sooooooo i guess its not like real life situations but maybe it is.

Voices

I decided to listen to the way people talk on t.v. I noticed that the people I tend to listen to more and are more believeable are the people who speak at a medeum speed who talk with some volume and who have little to no accents. For me, I just thought that they knew what they were talking about and were believeable.

Talk

The one thing that I really noticed while watching other people talk was the volume with which they talked. There are some people who are just naturally quiet and no matter what they say or how they say it, they just naturally talk quietly. I found that there are others who constantly talk loud. Some of them even seemed to yell all the time without even realizing it. I also found that there were those who switched between both. They are quiet one minute and then the next minute they are loud as can be. It was interesting to see all of these in small group of people.

people talkin

i noticed that some people watch other people when they talk. they may look at those around them to see how they are reacting to what they are sayin. some people do not. some people do not care about what others are doing and just say what they need to say. i agree with a post i read about people act differntly when they are lying. that is very true. i think people listen differently as well. u can kinda tell when someone is really listening to what you have to say, or when they are just fakin it like shut up i dont care.

i enjoyed working on the skits once again, and am startin to realize what is asked of us.
i also liked drawing out our little areas in class thursday. not sure what they are for, but im sure we will do something VERY interesting with them.

See you all in about7 hours :)

talking

I noticed a few things when i watch people talk. I noticed that many of my friends use very little movement when talking. I also noticed that people look and act differently when they lie. I was kinda interesting to see but it felt semi stockerish like the other watching people activity that we did. Well see you all later.

Monday Night Postin

So I am not entirely sure if I am supposed to free post. I think we were supposed to write about how people talk to us and how we percieve and respond to it. So depending on my mood, day, time, etc.... I might find someone's harmless remarks completely offensive sometimes. Really anyone can ALMOST say anything, and you should treat them depending on their attitude towards whatever.

Monday, April 7, 2008

I found it really helpful to watch other people perform their skits and then for Fabio to comment on them. Now i have a lot better of an idea what he is looking for in our skits. It's also cool to see how other groups with the same lines acted out their scene and came up with a completely different background story.

skits n stuff

So I really am excited about our final. I have the two best partners ever and we are gonna kick butt! I am having kind of a hard time though because I am reading the same part in two different situations and I keep getting the lines and emotions screwed up. I guess I will get it all ironed out before the final presentation.

See ya'll in class tomorrow!
I thought that going over what is considered an action that an actor portrays really helped to put ideas in our heads about what we can do in our own scenes. I also thought it was interesting that sometimes we do actions but don't even realize that we are doing them at the time. If we really feel the action we are trying to show the audience then our acting is going to be so much more believable.

Sunday, April 6, 2008

I thought class on Thursday was very helpful. Although we spent most of the time going over other people's scenes, it was a great learning experience (well at least I thought so!). I'm sure people felt the same way after watching those of us who went on the first day. Talking about the verbs helped alot. It got me thinking how best to portray my character and how to put life into our scene. I can't wait to see more, and to improve my own.

Oh and Thanks Gwyn! P.S. Gwyn, your idea about Endgame would have been perfect for your scene!!

Thursday, April 3, 2008

Hey i missed last post soooo here it goes.. ill write another one later
I thought that the scenes were pretty interesting, i can wait to see what every one else has!
Also, the layouts were fun to make... i wonder what we will be doing with those? Are we gonna have to set up that place in the studio cause i think that might be extremely difficult, esp cause ours is a boat... hmmmm
Lastly, Kevin and Michelle, i thought your scene was so cute. You guys work well together it seems, i cant wait until you have more done and we can see the final thing!
So we have floor plans, a relationship, and a reason why we're there; anyone else see us having to act out what ever is going on in our scene? I would like to know why we needed the floor plan for that though. Maybe just to give us a measure of space in which to work with. I'm not sure really. I guess we'll see in class.

Skit n Floor Plan

In Tuesday's class ron n i decided to try out our skit for the line check, i did not realize at all how much harder it is then what it seems. we do have a lot of practice to do so we'll see how that goes. I feel the floor plan is a good thing to do, because at this point to me it seems that it may be an easier activity compared to the last couple we've done the past month. But who knows, see ya in class!

Floor Plans

So like everyone else, i'm curious to see what were gonna have to do with our floor plans. i kinda have an idea, but with this class u never know. haha when we seperated into our groups to decide where we were, what we were doing, and where objects were located, i feel our group, the only one with three of chose something that will fit good in some kind of way with our personalities, so if we have to act something out i believe it's going to be fun, so i kind of am excited haha

Final

It was nice to get to watch other groups do their final and hear what Fabio had to say about them. This helped me to know what my partner and I should be thinking about and the type of questions that we should be asking while we're working on this. I'm extremely curious about what's going to happen with the floor plans, but I guess we'll find out.
I am also very curious about what we will be doing with those floor plans! Anyways, I got together with my group for the final last night and we worked really hard on it and got a lot of things done. We practiced a lot and I feel like we are finally starting to get somewhere! I am glad we can do them in class and get feedback for the final!

Lines and Floor Plans

I really didn't know that we needed to have as much as Fabio asked for last Tuesday.  Nevertheless it was  really  helpful to see what he would be asking different groups.  On another note I don't really know what to expect from the floor diagrams, but if I had to guess I'd imagine it was an exercise in being able to place objects in a scene.

On a lighter note, we had a good time hanging out with my roommate and some friends because it was my roommates birthday.  Yeah!
I as well as apparently everyone else is wondering what will come of the floor plans. I am also excited and nervous about the final practices. I think it will be nice to get feedback but i want to have a good idea of what we are doing so that the two practices are not wasted. Well im off to bed.

Wednesday, April 2, 2008

I too am curious to see what Fabio has planned for the floor plan he had us create. I found a new hobby while creating the floor plan though, the art of cartography.
I too am wondering what we are going to do with the places we picked as well as the characters, etc. I honestly have no idea what we will do other than obvisouly act out something. Those who went first for the final scene were brave, paving the way for the rest of us. I am thinking a lot of the people's original ideas will change as they go through the process of acting it out again.
For the record, my character name for the final is not really Ginger. Kevin and I kind of had to think on our feet in class on Tuesday because we really had very little idea what our scene really was. We had managed to get the lines down and that was about it. We had some back story, but not really enough to make a solid scene or idea out of. It was a little nerve-racking, but I'm glad we went first. Now we are left with plenty of time to adjust what we have and to really get a story and scene down. Constructive criticism is always really helpful!

Other than that, I'm interested to see what we are doing with the floor plan and scene we created at the end of class on Tuesday. (or maybe we aren't doing anything at all...who knows.)

class

I wonder what we are going to be doing with the places we picked last class. I am thinking it is giong to be something difficult because we had to put a lot of detail into what was around in the space that we chose. Anyway, I like the idea that we get to try out our scenes in class and get some pointers. I think that will really help for the final.

Warmer Thursday

I am glad to see that Ohio is somewhat warming up. I predict a spell of snow soon though, just seems right for OH haha Anyways, I liked not knowing what to do during the first run through of the final. I wasn't worried about getting things perfect, instead just getting them done. I think that without the stress of getting everything right it was easier to think through and act out. Hope everyone is doing great!

Acting-y stuff

So placing the objects in some space was fairly difficult mostly just because you had to remember what all went before you. But I kinda went in the middle both times so it wasn't extremely hard to do. Other than that i went to see the senior show of Allison Toth. It was good times.

Object and Placement

The object placing exercise was interesting. I quickly learned that getting out on the floor is far easier than sitting back and watching a few people go first. With everything compiling getting out there last makes things tough.

Object Placing = ugh

i really liked the idea of the exercise, but i did not like the fact that i went last... everytime i went to go someone else beat me to it lol... but i liked how at first u had to guess what the objects were to try n figure out what time of room or where we were. mainly it was difficult trying to remember everyones objects in order and using/touching them in some kind of way.

Object

So this last exercise of each of us placing an object in the space was kind of challenging. It really forced us to pay attention and really try to see what it was that was being placed and since we had very little time to do this we had to pay attention to every little detail even as the person placing the object. I also found it quite challenging to not only place the object of our own but then use everyone elses object as well. It was difficult to remember everything, but luckily we were able to figure it out with a little bit of help and no one put anything to complicated in the space.

Object Placement

So placing all those objects in one room was hard! Perhaps if we would have known for sure positive what type of room it was we would have had a better understanding of what to place there. That's just a thought though. Who really knows!!! Memorizing the script was fun and I cant wait to see everybodys finished product!!! See ya'll in class tomorrow!

object placing

I thought it was really kool to try to place things in the room last week. At first it was pretty easy, then it got harder as more people started adding thing. I thought it was neat how each person was thinking of what the place could have been which is what made them put what they put down. Our minds are all thinking differently, and that is why everyone is so different. We all have our own personalitys and we all see thinsg differently. I really like this class and am excited to see what else Fabio has in store for us.

p.s. I hope everyone remembered to memorize your skit for tomorrow! Cant wait to perform them LoL

See you all in class tomorrow :)

Mad

Im mad at myself for last Thursday. I woke up to my alarm at 8:00 and at 8:15 but I did not wake up for the final alarm at 8:30. So I slept though class and now I have to take a hit on my grade. Not only that but we are not all that close to being done. O well im going to go to bed so I will actually get up tomorrow.
I had fun in class when we had to place things in the room. I didn't always know what to add, but it was interesting seeing what everyone put in the room. It reminded me of a memory game like the going on a picnic game. I just got done memorizing my script for the final which is good. I will see everyone in class tomorow!

Did you miss me!!!! lol jk

so it looks like i missed a pretty rough class last thursday while i was in NC for a track meet... the weather was ok excpet for the second to last day wish was 42 and rainy.. it was alot nicer in ohio then it was in NC on that day.. but the other days were 70--85 so i was pretty pumped .. to bad i didnt throw all that great lol.. well i will see you guys in class tomorrow =)
I absolutely sucked at the place exercise we did where each of us had to add something to the room. It would take me almost until the last person went to figure out what the place actually was, then i would have to b.s. something to add to the room, mean while i had forgot what everything was and where it was placed. I guess i'm just an idiot haha.

memory

Ok, so I'm just going to throw it out there that the exercise with placing objects in a room was more difficult for me than it probably should have been. I have a decent memory, however, I guess the more I TRY to pay attention to details, the less I remember. Those of you sitting around me probably saw the look of dismay on my face as more and more people went up and placed objects in the room. It's not that I didn't know what or where the objects were, I just knew I would never be able to remember what everything was. And when I went up front I went almost completely blank, just like I knew I would. Oh well...I'll just look at it as a skill I have not yet acquired and will make a new goal to get better at it! See you all in class!!!
I agree with what gwyn said. I think we have all reached a level where we are comfortable with what we are doing in class, but we need to push ourselves to become even more comfortable/better at what we are doing. I think we will really be able to show how far we can push ourselves when we perform our final because then we can put our own twist on it. See you all tomorrow!

Sunday, March 30, 2008

I love Tuesday mornings. I have such much fun no matter what we do. Even the substance exercises which i dont get but think are silly. I do think that we all need to push ourselves more. ITs like some of use have closed ourselves from these activities. But wake up people! Its more fun when everyones into the exercises... so yea. Oh i am running out of things to write about in this blog... theres only so many times i can say i love acting for non majors... which i do. See you on tuesday! Hope you all had a good weekend and are ready for more silliness!

Oh remember that scripts need to be memorized by tuesday! dont forget.

Class

So I was thinking about the exercises that we do in class. To some it may be a very hard thing to go through just because of the abstract nature. For others, it is decently easy to do because they can focus themselves and think outside the box. I enjoy it, it gives me some time to center myself I guess?

Friday, March 28, 2008

Last class the movements just came pretty natural with the whole substance exercises. Paying attention to things to figure out where you are though is a little difficult. I could not tell what some of the things were that people put down so I guess I was at fault for keeping the items general as well. The two examples we did I just added or subsidized something already in the location. This kind of analyzation of consciously identifying what is around me actually has me noticing and realizing some things in front of me that I have never seen before.

weird

i have not a cluw what we were doin in class on tuesday but im sure there is a method behind the madness. im interested to see what we will be doing again today...scared, but interested. it was kinda neat to feel how i was really into myself when he was talking about relaxing ur body. hopefully we do that again today :)

Relaxed...

I felt so relaxed after Fabio talked us through our body. It was like after the tension left I could just focus on what I was doing instead of being concerned with my body.
When doing the exercise on tuesday, it felt a little strange because I actually did feel like I was moving through some sort of substance. I know that was the point of the exercise, but I guess it was one of the first times when I really convinced myself the substance/object was real. And sitting after doing the initial exercise felt funny...almost like I was floating or something. I don't think my body has ever been that relaxed! (I tend to be very tense...).
The substance activities were really unusual. They were hard in that the substance was anything you wanted it to be and it was hard to keep it consistent the whole time. Pulling the objects out of it was pretty easy though because I just kind of "saw" the substance and the object. i kinda want to know what exactly the purpose of these exercises are though since they seem kinda non inter-related a little bit.
I think that the substance activity was the hardest we had done so far. I honestly was picturing it in my mind but it was so hard to move like I was in it. It was also hard for me to keep my substance the same thing every time, I kept imagining a different substance. I hope that I can relate to the activity better in today's class.

Substance Activity

idk really what to say about this activity except its prob the least appealing to me so far compared to everything else we've done. but midway through the class i felt i missed something in the instructions, bc when i heard that we were imagining to be in any kind of substance i thought everyone was to imagine an individual substance that they were in so instantly was imagining one particular substance and i'm not sure if that was correct. but if that was what we were doing then i find this activity very confusing! ugh but we'll see how it goes in todays class i guess..
Class on Tuesday was pretty cool. We are really being forced to use our imagination and think in a way that is different than the normal mindset. It's hard to describe the substance that surrounded anyone. The exercises that we did made me forget completely about everyone around me and what they did or said. I get the feeling that is what the relaxation exercises were about...forgetting everything around you and focusing on the object and substance.
Id agree the substance activity was kinda weird at first but after a bit it seemed that i could see myself in it i guess i dont know it was weird. Me and Clint got together for our final and had a rather productive time with it i think. It should be fun. Well that all from me untill next time.

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

the substance activity was a little weird to me. when half of us stood up at the same time and the other half watched and fabio would give us instructions no one did anyting different from what i saw. I know i just stood still in both instances but he said we did it right so maybe doing nothing out of the ordinary was the exercise.

nothing really to say.

I wonder what we will do tomorrow?

thats the extent of my post. I am baffled with what could possibly come next... and its hard to baffle me.

today was a rough day so i hope tomorrow's class can brighten my mood.

ps. Brandon we need to work on our project. Remind me.

Nothing New

Well not much new happening, just waiting to see what Fabio has in store for us next class.

imagination

When we were closing our eyes and imagining that we were in some kind of substance last class, I really started to feel like I was actually in it. It's weird how if you imagine something, your mind can start to make you believe it is real. I also think it's crazy that we were all given the same directions but we all probably came up with different substances. Life would be so boring without imagination.

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

I dont remember what happened last week except the game of whiz bang that was awesome at the end of class. It was awesome and optional.

Card dealings?

So on Thursday last time we had class we did the interact with an object realistically and the surface height exercises. The interaction wasn't that hard really as long as you went slow and payed attention to what was going on basically. The height on the other hand was pretty hard because you had to deal with your object and put it in the right space which is fairly hard to do. Oh and I had a good easter and all.

Easter Break

It was nice to have easter break, I didnt have basketball or class i got to go home and spend some time with my friends and spend time with my boyfriend. I played some basketball with some of my friends and spent the rest of the time with my family. But today is goin to be along day because i got class and lifting at 2:30 and i also got a meeting with my coach at 2, then i have dinner and night class. Its a non stop day and i can not wait til its over.
ok so he spaced out while i was doing my surface height thing.. mayb it was for the best because now that i remember what i did it wasnt that good lol.. o and as for the paper air plane i am going to make on and show him one of these days lol.. and as for the cornhole idea it sounda pretty sweet im not gonna lie... i mean cornhole is todays kids fav past time lol ... i hope you had a good easter break and i will see you all in 20 minutes lol .. =)

Whiz Bang!

So it seems as if everybody else is commenting on the all powerful whiz bang game so I guess I will join the multitude. I love the game and now that it has the deep south "cornhole" element, I feel right at home. Look forward to another lightning round of whiz bang today in class.
I just want to comment on the fact that the other day I was talking to someone who is in the other class and we were playing a mini game of whiz bang between the two of us. Well, a friend of ours was watching and she just looked at both of us like we were completely crazy. Apparently not everyone understands how wonderful whiz bang really is.

P.S. Kevin's idea to add cornhole to the game was brilliant. I enjoyed it immensely

How High?

Copernicus should be shaking in his boots

Who doesnt feel happier after a round of Whiz bang?! It sure brightens up my day... i was thinking that everyone should play at least one game each day.. it would make the world go round... more than it presently does... but not too much that it rocks the earth off the whole gravitational pull solar systemy thing... can you tell science is not my favorite subject? Anyway before anyone takes credit for the 7-10 split i would like to take credit now... i also have some curling whiz bang ideas floating around up in here if i decide to be so bold tomorrow and bring them up.

Copernicus -just in case you didn't catch the reference

Thank you

Thanks for the words of encouragement Fabio. Im really enjoying this class. Although it was challenging i liked the surface exercise. I also really like whiz-bang its fun and challenging. I think that nearly every exorcise we have done has been fun and i cant wait to see whats next. See you all in class.

New Challanges

Last class was a challange for me for a number of reasons. First of all, the surface height activity was difficult. It was so hard for me to picture where my surface was and then turn away from it and then find that same height again. Then, being in a beartrap was also hard. I did not know what to do and it was hard for me to deal with pain when I was not feeling it or seeing anygthing.

Racking Basketballs

during thursday's class the moving an object from one place to another exercise was a little challenging, i think mainly bc i chose to pick basketballs up and set them on the rack. what made this difficult was that after i sat my first ball on, i turned around to get another ball and i really had to concetrate on the serface height of the rack which at that point it was behind me.
Class thursday brought back the game wizbang which seemed to have attracted a large cult following seeing as people stayed after class to play wizbang. Me and joe have some good ideas for our final so prepare to be amazed

Moving Gnomes

Never thought that I'd move a collection of miniature gnomes, but thats exactly what happened last class. Though I'm sure that a gang of them follow me around and move my things when I'm not looking. I was encouraged to note that Prof. Fabio was impressed/surprised when I managed to turn around grab a gnome and place it on its imaginary table top. Its the little things in life; pun intended.

i can't think of a title...

The exercise that we did when we had to keep the surface height of something the same while we put objects on it was pretty hard. It is difficult to maintain the height of something that isnt really there so i just tried to imagine that it was to make it a little easier. I think by doing these exercises where we have to imagine objects will help us when we actually use props because we will be more aware of what we are doing. Oh and the story about that acting teacher that made you clean a pretend room for 45 minutes sounds crazy...

AU Home Page

Branden,

It would be really sweet if you guys could put a really obvious direct link to the events calendar on the home page that said something like "Events Calendar."

Fabio

Thanks

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to say, again, how impressed I am with the growth I am seeing in all of you (this goes for the 10:50 a.m. class, as well). Something happened over spring break and/or you are just starting to put things together without knowing it. In a discipline where m learning is much of the learning is non-intellectual, it is difficult to know when things will suddenly click, but they inevitably do. It is fun for me to see. Thanks.

Fabio

Acting For Non Majors

I had a great post written up, it was amazing. I hit post, and got an error code. I refuse to rewrite it....
I was not in class last week on Thursday to know what the entangled exercise was that everyone ws talking about in their blogs. On Tuesday we had to act like we were trapped in somethin. I had elevator, and i thought it was rahter interesting. I am wondering what out exercise will be for today. I wish we had this class more often bc i find myself wantin to be there more and more as the year goes on. See you all in a little bit :)

Final

So the final seems like it should be fun at least from what's been described to me. A blank scene where we get to basically make it whatever we want ought to be an interesting endeavor. At least until something goes horribly wrong with it. And reading other blogs makes me sad for missing class.

trapped in the port-a-pottie

Being trapped in a port-a-pottie is a strange ordeal. I have never been stuck in one before so I had to really think what was going on. I messed up on where the door was because where I was trying to force something open was on the wrong side. I was going about it like it was facing the ground where in reality it wouldn't have been obstructed by anything.

Final

Reading over the script that I was given for the final I can only imagine what can come out of some of the other ones. I really like how we are able to essentially just let our imagination take over and propel a seemingly brief and uninteresting scene and create this interesting, funny or possibly dramatic scene. I can't wait to get started on this project!

Final

I also think that the final will be an interesting challenge. I thought that it was interesting that all Fabio gave us were very very simple lines. It should be interesting to see what everyone does with the scripts that they were given. Thats all for now see you all in about 9 hours and 25 min.
The trapped activity i thought was a little more difficult than the tangled activity, but i guess things should progressivly get harder. The final should be cool and i noticed that atleast one other group has the same script as my group so it will be interesting to see the different interpretations of the script we each come up with
I don't think that I've ever received the final so far in advance in a class before. I think professors like to have something to hold over their students up till the very last moment... or they're like me and didn't plan that far in advance and haven't even thought about the final, let alone have something to give to their students. Anyway, kudos to Prof. Fabio for being on top of it. And whatever happened to Whiz-bang?

talking is more complicating than i thought!

So I realized during the tangled activity that when talking is factored in it sometimes makes it more difficult! I thought that if we were able to talk it would be a lot easier to act because all the attention wasn't focused on just what you were doing. If you add talking to your acting (especially in situations like we did where the person is most likely not comfortable or okay with what is going on) then you REALLY need to make what you say believable through your emotions. Acting is much harder than it looks!

p.s. I agree with everyone else... the final project seems like it is going to be fun but challenging at the same time. It will be interesting to see how everyone puts their own twist on their scenes.

Apology

So I was horrible at acting like I was trapped in a closet. I just didn't completly sell it. I guess my heart wasn't in it all the way. Anyways, Im excited for the final and my imagination is running wild on ideas that are still appropriate enough to be realistic. Stoked...
So I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and post the day of class. I really have nothing better to do at the moment, so here goes. Class was interesting as always today. I found it difficult to portray being stuck in mud...although it is something that happens to me (seeing as how I'm a total klutz and tend not to pay attention to where i am walking!) I was trying to make sure it didn't seem like i was stuck in quicksand or anything.

As for the final, I'm pretty excited about it. I think it is actually going to be fun and challenging at the same time.

Procrastination in action

I have a ten page paper due at 6. I have two pages done.. so, naturally, im gonna blog instead. I cant seem to bring myself to write this paper. Ive had two weeks and now look what happened. im gonna have to turn it in late tomorrow because im having writers block and cant think of a single thing to say. blah... oh well. a bad grade is not the end of the world.

Im pretty excited about the final project. I didnt seem like it today because i have a cold and am on meds that kind wipe me out so i was half asleep and couldnt feel my feet. does that happen to anyone else? But i think its gonna be pretty cool. the final project not my cold. i cnt wait to actually get into the thick of it and start bouncing ideas off of one another. We just need to look at the script given to us, see what sticks out in our minds and go from there. At least thats what i plan on doing. I dont want to get stuck doing the same old scene but i dont want to over complicate things either. The balance between simple and interesting is a hard one but i think we can all do it. good luck everyone. Yea for acting class!

march 18

Wow im a loser, blogging right after class lol.. i really didnt have anything else to do so o well lol ...Todays class seemed to go by really quicly. And its starting to get hard to think of new things that haven’t used in class already. You have to start thinking “out of the box’ lol.. o and these final projects right now it doesn’t seem to bad but I know it will get harder because I am not that good with memorizing stuff so I apologize in advance lol .. well I will see you guys Thursday !! =)

All Tangled Up.

So the "tangled up" activity was very hard for me. I guess I never really realized the fine line between "tangled" and "entrapped" but all together, this was a very rough activity for me. Hopefully we can do it again and I'll get it right this time. Hope ya'll had a great spring break and look forward to todays class!

Spring Break

I had an okay Spring Break, Its crazy that were back here at AU already. I cant wait to go to class tho im sure were gonna have a lot to catch up on :) I was in a good mood earlier bc i got my laptop back finally.. circuit city owned it for a good 4 months, so its nice to have my baby back! Too bad all my shit is gone from it tho. my music, school files, pictures, aim , limewire, Microsoft Office 2007... EVERYTHING! Thas the downside to them replacing ur hardrive without asking first, but i guess that life !

So now im goin to shower before bed, and get up for my 8 am class tom... cant wait to see u guys at 925... Hoope u all enjoyed your time off, and just think , only 3 more days till EASTER break :)
YAY~

class

I dont think I posted for the last class but I remember I was stuck in a parachute and rolled around on the ground awhile while I was struggling to escape the entanglement of whatever I was entangled in I guess. The hardest part was that I have never parachuted before so I really had no idea how many ropes/wires were attatched to my backpack thing and whatnot.

Exercise

Well last class my entanglement wasnt what Fabio was looking for so I had to act as though I was entangled with an octopus. That my friends was possibly the hardest thing I have done in this class yet. I had no idea why Fabio wanted me to "punch" the beak, though it was fun and funny. Well thats all for me see you all later.

Tangle

This last exercise was extremely weird and a lot harder than i though it would be. While being entangled sounds like something that would be easy to act out with actually being tangled it was rather difficult. Without your limbs actually being restricted you naturally want to allow them to go anywhere. It took a lot of concentration to keep from doing that. I think that the best way to do this exercise would be to close your eyes and picture yourself being entangled, i know this is what we were told in class but ehh what can you do.

all wrapped up

this activity was alot harder then i thought it was going to be.. i kept on losing sight of the "jump rope" that was tied around my ankles ... then i ran out of ideas of how to get me out of this. .. so i just kept in wrappng the jump rope so it ended up bing like a thrity foot long jump rope lol .. o well i hope your guys brake was good.. see you in class =)
I was not in class on Thursday so I do not know what this tangled activity was all about but it sounds like it was a fun time. It sounds much different than anything we had ever done in class before. I hope that everyone's break was good! See you all tomorow in class!!
The tangled activity was pretty cool i thought. It was definately a step down in difficulty compared to the face immitating activity. It was easy to act out being stuck in a small spider web because that happens all the time but upgrading to the large one was more difficult seeing as i have never been stuck in spidermans web.

Snake

the last activity was the tangled activity and i actually found it a lot more difficult then most of the other things we've done. i was supposed to act as if i were tangled in a snake, and it was hard bc snakes move fast n squeeze n me bein afraid of them made it seem weird to try n grab for the head, seems how i would never attempt that i dont think, but guess u'd do anything to stay alive lol

Tangled

So we had a chance to be tangled up in something. Although I didn't come up with my scenario, it turned out to be a rather good thing. I got caught up in a shower curtain, and though I've never done this outside the class, thankfully, Fabio thought I did my best acting doing it. (Funny how that works.) Not knowing what to do; I just thought that it would be an awkward experience. Because lets face it, not only would getting tangled up in a shower curtain be embarrassing, you'd be naked. Adding to the awkwardness of the whole ordeal. Nevertheless, whatever I did worked. I just hope that I never actually have to experience it.

tangled activity

In the last class when we did the activity where we were supposed to act like we were tangled in something was kinda difficult! The line between acting believable and overacting seemed like it could be crossed pretty easily in this activity since you had to imagine that you were actually struggling to untangle yourself. Anyways I'm excited to see what we will be doing next in class. See everyone Tuesday and hope all your spring breaks were fun!

Absent

So I was able to make class, so I really don't know what to write. I hope everyone had a fun and safe break, and I will see you all on Tuesday!

"It's 4 in the morning grandma,You Win!"

So it is 5am...and I am still awake. Why you may ask... because I am finding it nearly impossible to fall asleep. Since 2 am I have written half a paper, created a PowerPoint project, cleaned my room, and rearranged my aim buddy list (because what else do you do at 4am?) And now I am blogging...

Anyway, about the last class...

I enjoyed the exercise we did in the last class. It was fun to watch, and kinda fun to do. As people went, I thought of more ideas of things to be tangled in (and sure enough the next person always took my idea!). I'm not gonna lie, I sometimes find it difficult to do the exercises. Going along with Emily's post, I think I have trouble because I think too much, and over-analyze everything. I need to work on that....but it's hard because I've always been a thinker rather than a doer...

Perhaps that's why I can't sleep...I'm just thinking too much...

I think I'll leave that for my next therapy session...

Hope you all enjoyed your break!!

Don't forget to post for the March 6 class

Website

Branden,

I think the website looks great. Much bettter. Professional, and, dare I say, slightly hip?

Fabio

All listen to Emily Miller

Reread Emily's March 3 post. She's got it!

Eating and Talking

This is a response to Katie Sopher's March 2 post. The reason it is so hard for newbies to do an exercise in which you have to truthfully eat a meal while having a conversation is because they (the newbies) are over-focusing on the conversation. Most of the time when you are eating, you are focused on eating, not on talking. The conversation just happens. Try this next time and see how it goes.

the play

i wish was multi-media thing would have been a lil more planned out and done a lot more better. it was just weird how the acting that was live was better then the videos that could have been done over and over again till they got it perfect .. so that did not make much scence to me.. and then the smoking thing.. i do think that was ok .. but the sign should have been easier to see cause i was caught of guard and smoking sometimes makes me sick.. but i was ok this time , i just think the sign should have been a lil easer to see since i didnt even see it . but to my the over all play id give it about a 7 maybe .
I really enjoyed the discussion class we had Tuesday. We should do that more often. Its nice to be able to share opinions, and see how others reacted to the same experience.

On a completely different note, I had a hand in the new AU website, and was wondering what anyone thought. Any feedback, whether or not you like it is welcome. We're always looking to improve things and its hard to get a non-insiders opinion sometimes.

Anyway see y'all next class. The whiz-bang tournament must continue.

Aww.

Thanks Kev! Im actually kinda bummed cause all of my work was shoved into the back corner of the space but at least im in the show. Hopefully some of you can come... if you want.

heres a sneak peek... ya...

I wasn't in class on Tuesday so I don't remember if we had to post or not. I heard we had a discussion about the play. I thought it was pretty good, just very different. I watched it with a different mindset and I think that affected my whole opinion of the play.

Discussion

I really enjoyed our discussion in class the other day. I think what made it better than most discussions that occur is that we all went to see the play on different nights instead of everyone going to see it on the same night. This gave us all different perspectives on the play because each night was different. It was nice to hear everyone tell about their experience with the play and their views on the death penalty. I just wish that I was able to attend Sister Prejan's talk the night that she came to see the play.

class 2

Sorrry about that last post I pressed enter after putting in the title and well you can see the outcome. So yeah about that discussion. I thought it was a good idea to discuss the play and it was great hearing everyone elses views. I thought it was interesting that a few of us didnt want to express their opinions about it but that fine. I was really glad that Fabio had the same veiws as me about the multimedia because i was a little worried that when he read my paper that he might think that i was just bashing on the play. Well I have some other things that need to get done so I bid you all farewell.

Class

Super Super Pumped

Ok so, class on Tuesday was kind of dull compared to others. I really think that discussing the play was a good idea but it just bored me. The comments that were made I think were good and supported by evidence from the play. I am really excited for class tomorrow. I hope that I can concentrate. Spring break is right around the corner... FLORIDA, her I come!!! See ya'll in class!

oiwueriouweiorwer

The conversation on the play went pretty well in class. I thought i would be in the minority thinking that the multi-media was stupid but it turns out that you all are just as intelligent as i am haha. I hope in class tomorrow we get to go back to the improv acting. I think it's the most entertaining exercise that we do and it gets us to think on our feet. It also helps you get over any stage fright you might have pretty quickly.

Being sick ain't fun...

So the past couple days I have felt like death, I hate getting sick. I am going to the "Health/Death" Center at 8am so hopefully I will be in class.

On a side note, I saw Gwyn's artwork and it is beautiful! I encourage everyone to attend the gallery if you can.

Everyone's a critic...

So going into the discussion on Tuesday I was really worried that I was overly critical of the play. I was not all that impressed with the performance I saw, but everyone else I had talked to before Tuesday had all really enjoyed it. I thought maybe I was just too critical and expected too much out of it. That said I was happy to hear in class that other people agreed with me on some things. I had a few specific arguments about why I disliked the play and many people in the class seemed to share my opinions.

That said, I can't wait to get back to doing the activities in class on Thursday!

On another note, everyone please attend Mr. University tomorrow night @9 in Upper Convo. The ladies of Alpha Phi have been working very hard on this event, and it is going to be a very entertaining evening. If for nothing else, come support Ron!!

some thoughts

I feel like as the semester is going on we are all really opening up to each other and expressing oursevles in a way that we never thought we would. I never really thought that taking this acting class would teach me as much about everyday life as it has so far. I have started to slow down and take everything in because I never took the time to notice what was happening before. Anyways I am excited to see how far we all will have come once the semester is coming to an end! See you all in class tomorrow.

Im not creative enough for titles.

So there is an at show this week. It opens on Thursday at 5... or 4:30. I'm not really sure. Anyway i have a couple pieces in this year and if you want to stop on by and take a look that would be swell. There are some great submissions and it could be cool... maybe... if you like that sorta thing. And its an opening so there will be food and beverages and all that jazz.

Back to class. I'm excited for Thursday. I think that because its right before break were all gonna be filled with so much energy. Hopefully it will help and not just make us all crazy and to hyper. Okay hopefully it wont make me to hyper. Especially since last class we only discussed the play, and the time before we attempted the face junk... it will be nice to get back into the fun stuff again.

look outside. really look. don't just complain about the snow and ice. its beautiful.

abotu the play

i enjoyed the play. it was a lot different than i thought it was going to be. I am interested in talkin abut it today in class to see how others percevied it. I have a couple questions and they may be the same or different as others inthe class. I am upset that i will be missing class again on thursday and quite frankly IM SICK OF IT!... we have to go back up to the Upper pennisula for basketball bc we made the semi finals for the GLIAC. I am happy that we made it but i just wish it wasnt soooo far away, but i guess pickers cant be choosers... so LETS GO AU!

See you all in class :)
well the first time I tried posting it didn't work so here is try number two.....The eating exercise is the hardest one we have done so far in my opinion...adding a conversation was harder because well I didn't want to talk, I wanted to eat, I was too focused I guess. And I did eat a pineapple and pepperoni pizza at some point and time after this exercise and I ate somewhat like I acted but not completely, I did not take in account the temperature of the food

Eating Exercise

In the last class, when we had to eat and carry on a conversation, I had a difficult time. It was hard to concentrate on being believeable while eating but then adding in the conversation made it even harder. I had to concentrate on eating and think about what I was going to say next. I think that this class will get even more interesting once we add in more factors and the exercises get harder. I am excited to see what is to come.

Improvement

i found thursday's exercise to be quite fun and also funny. from what i observed, i feel that everyone that went has made major improvement in their acting skills thus far, esp since the last time we did an eating exercise and we even had to talk this time. being able to talk n have conversations now has boosted the difficulty level up a tad but at the sametime has made the class more exciting and interesting and allowing us to take our acting skills to the next step. cant wait to see wat we have coming up w/in the next few classes!!!

Play

I went to see the play this past thursday. I really enjoyed it despite the fact that I was extremely depressed the rest of the night to the point where I wanted to just go back and sleep the rest of the night. It was different to watch a play where the main character never left the stage. I can only imagine how hard it must have been to memorize all of those lines. It was also different to see that there were very few props used and very little scenery. This allowed me to envision the scenery on my own rather than how the set designer wanted it to be. It reminded me of our exercises in class such as the eating exercises where we had no props and while watching we had to envision the "props" so it was nice to actually see this happening in a play.

so much to say

I loved the play! It was one of the only plays i have seen that actually made me cry, which is sad but wonderful. I was a bit unsure of what to expect but it was just really good. i dont want to say to much though because i dont want to ruin my paper for you.

I cant say much because i have been watching the office for the last 40 hours and my mind is gone. I cant wait until tomorrow. Class will be fantasic. And it will be nice to not just watch the same show.

ALSO, it was gorgeous outside today. it was the perfert weather. And i loved it.

Hooray

So I saw the play over the weekend and I liked it. Other than that not a whole lot going on. As for class it's fairly hard to eat and talk at the same time. And for some reason I do put weird emphasis on words as I talk. As it was said like a 30's detective movie but it's fun and not gonna stop doing it in normal life. As for the "face taking" exercise we did last week it was really hard to figure out how to do it. I also think it's gonna be hard the next time we do it. I don't want to do it again. that applies to every time.

talking

I think that the most recent change to the class (talking) is going to provide an interesting and challanging new aspect to what we are learning. I am really looking foword to it because i like being able to comunicate with people that i work with. I really look forward to seeing what we all can do with this new change. Ill see you all in class. P.S. Dont forget about the essay.

Eating and Talking

So the newest addition to our classroom experience has been the use of our voices. I'm both excited and terrified by this. I don't do very well with multitasking, and this is an interesting blend of just that. Nevertheless, it's not all that bad, given that my head didn't explode from the effort and that given enough time I'll be pretend eating while holding a conversation on the phone while answering my pretend secretary who just happens to be Fabio.

asdfasdfasdfasdf

I was relieved at the start of thursdays class that i got out of doing the face mirroring exercise. That looked extremely difficult and i know i would have done terrible. How can one make their face physically look like someone elses face. I doubt denzel washington could make his face look like mine and he's a bad ass actor.

Pizza & Pie

So Thursdays class was a very hard one for me! While sitting on the floor pounding the grease out of my "pizza" our group carried on a very disturbing and possibly provokative conversation about our favorite types of dessert. Body language and facial expressions added to our very uncomfortable and funny presentation.

acting

I think that I am starting to finally understand that in order to make your acting believable you just need to follow your instinct. If you start to think to much about what your next move is going to be then chances are what you do is not going to be the best it can. I usually try to think things through before I do them, so it has been kinda hard for me to let go of my inhibitions and just go for it. I just have to keep reminding myself that in daily life I don't stop to think how I am going to eat or something like that, I just do it.

eating activity

I agree with Katie, the eating exercise proved incredibly difficult for me. However, I think I know why it was so hard for me. When I was sitting there pretending to eat my chinese food....I never really convinced myself that I was actually eating it. If I had really let myself get into it, I would probably have made it seem way more believable. I'm a huge fan of Chinese, so I probably would have been taking gigantic bites of my shrimp lo mein and probably would have lashed out at gwyn for stealing a bite (although she did share!) The most i could really offer up realistically was my question about the fortune cookies, because I really enjoy those too!!"

On another note,
I know Ron mentioned Mr. University in his post, so I'm going to put in my plug for it.

Mr. University is an evening of entertainment, laughs, and good looking guys presented by the lovely ladies of Alpha Phi! All proceeds from the event go to the Alpha Phi foundation which supports cardiac care.
Mr. University will be this Thursday, March 6th in Upper Convo. @ 9pm. For more info check out the event at http://ashland.facebook.com/event.php?eid=10478825862

eating exercise

Hello All!!! I remember doing the eating exercise earlier in the year and it doesn’t seem any easier now .. does anyone else think so?? And now adding the talking part its just a lot to think about that’s all.. and its so hard to focus on the eating part when the talking element is added. Its just so hard to remember where you set down everything .. o well practice makes batter right .. see you guys Tuesday !!!

Title

I don't remember if I blogged since Thursday's class so I figured I should go ahead and do one anyways. Since we are supposed to start going back to class related topics this post might sound weird or dumb I think. Acting to me is pretending to be someone or something other than yourself. I hear lots of people say that acting is stupid and who really acts anymore, things like that. Well I took a hard look into myself and realized that my life, unfortunately, is mostly an act. Maybe if people looked into themselves every once in awhile they might realize that there are plenty of actors out there, sometimes as close as looking into a mirror...

nevermind

this offer is no longer available
I have an extra ticket for tonights show! If anyone needs one please facebook me. or call or whatever.

i will post later. this is just a friendly hello.

self humiliation is the best entertainment

So I'm Mr. Phi Kappa Psi for Mr. University and I realized that all I have to do to keep going is blatantly humiliate myself at every possible opportunity because funny is entertaining. What was I thinking when I got myself into this? Though I didn't really get myself into this, I just wasn't paying attention to what was going on and someone said my name and I said yeah. whoops. either way with it drawing near I started practicing my talent which is exceptional self humiliation. This entire affair ought to be fun.

RE : Sniper

yeah that was fun teaming up on gwyn max... but i would like to think i had the kill shot, i mean i did almost have the headshot haha jk but it was fun.. oh yeah, kev thought he was gonna get outta it too, but we got him lol.. i wonder wat will happend tomorrow after class?? payback perhaps???

Get It Together

I realized this week that I really need to get my stuff together. We're coming up on the halfway mark of the semester soon and I feel like I just keep falling further and further behind. I think that this is due to the fact that I don't have any homework that is actually collected and graded. I realize now that even though it's not being collected I need to keep up in my classes by completing the homework. It's hard now because I have to get myself into the rythym of getting it done. Hopefully I'll get caught up with my classes and stay on top of my grades.

Snow

Well i had a very interesting tuesday morning this week. At about 1 in the morning me and my roomates decided to go outside and play in the snow a bit. I build a snow man on the patio of a&h and also I had rolled a snow ball that was up to my sholders in height to start a snow man but unfortunatly it broke so me and my friends decided to make one out of the ruins and that was on the steps near the rec center. We also had a massive snowball fight. It was so fun and Ilove snow. We didnt get back into the room until almost 4 in the morning. Good times.

Kalahari

This weekend, I went to Kalahari indoor water park. I had a blast! It was nice to be able to wear a bathing suit and go swimming when the weather was so cold outside. I went on some slides, went in the wave pool and just had fun. There was also an indoor/outdoor hot tub which was cool because once you got outside, it was warm, but there was snow all around you. I had fun and hope to go back soon!!

Busy and okay with that...

So I had an interview yesterday, and it went well. Got a call today and I got the internship! I do a lot of web stuff, and this is an Advertising and Web Design company in town so this should be a good fit for me. Anyway, I've been really busy with the school paper "The Collegian", since, yup, you guessed it, I maintain their website. It may not seem like a lot, but its a beast.

Also, I've got a lot of projects,, some fun, others not so much, coming up at my campus job . I just need to make sure I get enough sleep tonight, because tomorrow is a school day, ( I work MWF and have classes TTH) and I've been cutting it short lately. Nevertheless, I'm feeling pretty good and am looking forward to class.

sniper

Not to brag but gwyn and i got into a snowball fight after class on tuesday, which she started, and i won by hitting her in the spine with a 5 pound snowball the size of a large human head. To the rest of you take heed before you throw a snowball at me.

hope everyone is having a good day!

I couldn't really think of anything that I wanted to write about today so I just wanted to say I hope everyone is having a good day! Besides all the stuff I have had to do today and all the homework that is still waiting for me, today has been pretty good! I will be much more happy though when the weekend gets here. See you all in class tomorrow!

MY FIRST DAY OFF!!!

So today is offically my first real DAY OFF, of the entire year! I have NO CLASSES and also NO BASKETBALL PRACTICE!! I dunno what to do with myself, i guess im goin to just study lol bc i have big marriage and fmaily test tom, and thas about it. I just love laying around and doing whatever and not having to be anywhere at a specific time. IT FEELS GREAT! Well as usual class was interesting and i cant wait to be there again tomorrow. Hope everyone is enjoying the snow as much as i am... espcecilly when i had to DIG my car out of the parkin lot this morning to go to the bank :) I definately have to say that i loved snow alot more in high school when we got SNOW days, but here in Atown, they dont exist!

"Sunshine doesn't kill people"

I am one of those crazy people who is totally in love with snow. It makes me sad when people complain about the snow or talk about how terrible it is. I think it is beautiful. Who doesn't love everything covered in white, and big fluffy snow flakes falling from the sky? Snow just makes me happy. My roommate, on the other hand, thinks snow is disgusting. She constantly tells me that I shouldn't love snow because it's ugly and causes car accidents . Yesterday, after talking about how snow causes death she said "Sunshine doesn't kill people". My brilliant response to this was "Sure it does....Melanoma!" (Ironically, we were walking to a tanning salon when we had this conversation)

4 am

I, along with everyone else in Amstutz hall, was up at 4 this morning because of the fire alarm. I am dreading the rest of the day because I know I will have a lot of work to do. Coffee, Cappacino, or an energy drink? I will probably end up drinking some coffee today because its cool (or hot).

Tuesday, February 26, 2008

oh the weather outside is frightful...

This will be the shortest post ever cause most of mine are 7 pages long.

A side note on today- I really do like my tattoo and it wasnt a mistake.. lol. i just wanted to let ya'll know. i tend to say stuff thats not true when under pressure or in acting classes... so yea. thats just been going through my head all day!

I LOVE the snow! It was so exciting today getting out of class and being in a snow globe! i made a snow man- and hit people with snow- and froze my fingers off and it was perfect. snow just makes you happy.

the end.

Holy Crap

so it's one o'clock rite now and i had a basketball game earlier n then went to the eagles nest for awhile, so prob bout after 11 is the last time i was outside.... well 20 min ago i look outside bc i heard ppl yelling, and it was freakin snowing like crazy!!! its so weird that all that snow came down in such a short period, needless to say i didnt even kno it was supposed to be like this lol..
so i'm prayin that we get an email saying class is cancelled tomorrow, b/c its my only class haha and i dnt really wanna be out in this crap!!!

Taco Bell

I'm pretty sure that most of you will agree with me that Taco Bell is amazing at like 3 in the morning. This past weekend I went to Taco Bell way too much. Over the weekends I usually work and cannot make it to convo while it is open and this weekend I decided to just go to Taco Bell. I never thought that I would get sick of it but let me tell you I really did. I had it twice on Saturday and three times on Sunday. Needless to say if I never ate Taco Bell again I would be happy.
